FINDON HIGH SCHOOL REDEVELOPMENT
Findon High School is a Year 7-12 school at Drummond Avenue in Findon. As part of the Department for Education (DfE) Capital Works program, a redevelopment of the Findon High School was recently undertaken. The development includes flexible learning areas, new study areas, relocation of the Resource Centre and an upgrade of the Music Centre.
The original Resource Centre was isolated from the main learning areas and required relocation. The new Library "Discovery Centre" has been relocated to the main building, directly adjacent the main entry to the school. Visitors can see the new facility through the new glazed partition directly from the front reception, providing prospects of the learning opportunities for their children. The new design opens up the existing wing, with large windows along both sides providing excellent daylight, and new sliding glass doors creating a connection to the courtyards outside.
Light and fresh blue and yellow colours were chosen, along with natural timber accents. The curved plywood reception desk and ceiling bulkhead help to define and soften the large open space. Acoustic ceiling fins were
introduced to maximise acoustic absorption.
The Library includes long workstation desks, fixed booth seating, a seminar room, 2 private study spaces with AV screens, whiteboards, pinboards and whiteboard surface tables, as well as staff areas including IT / IT help desk and staff office spaces.
