Glenthorne National Park

GLENTHORNE NATIONAL PARK - ITYAMAIITPINNA YARTA

Glenthorne National Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta Visitor Hub is located within Adelaide’s newly created National Park, celebrating First Nations culture and a State Heritage Place in a rehabilitated natural environment providing opportunities for recreation and connection to country in suburban Adelaide. A series of picnic shelters and public amenities have been developed around the central open space of the Glenthorne Green and the Nature Playground.

The suite of built elements, pathways and nature play blend seamlessly within the environment to provide inclusive and accessible recreational facilities that enhance the visitor experience and promote connection to country. The design utilises materials of low embodied energy such as Australian Hardwoods (Silver Ash and Blackbutt) and local stone which are robust, minimising maintenance requirements. Natural daylight and ventilation in the Public Amenities Building reduces energy and life cycle costs.

The Visitor Hub was developed in collaboration with Landscape Architects TCL, with the key involvement of First Nations artist Karl Winda Telfer, senior cultural custodian for his clan countries which include the Adelaide Plains Mullawirra (dry forest country) and Pangkarra Kaurna Meyunna (people).
