Dulwich Residence

DULWICH, SA

The rear extension to this Dulwich bluestone residence is a pavilion form comprising kitchen, meals and family room spaces with light on three sides. Rooms were repositioned and converted within the original part of the house to provide four bedrooms, a sitting room and two bathrooms. A small study and laundry are also new elements in the extension. Externally the ‘slightly fractured’ geometry of the additions has been emphasised by a striking colour scheme derived from the colours of the original sections of the house and a clear articulation of wall and frame. A strong connection to the sitting room was created by double glass doors and an opening in the ‘back bench’ of the kitchen. The informal, multi-use family space has become the heart of the house.
