Woodcroft College Gymnasium

WOODCROFT COLLEGE GYM, SA

Phillips/Pilkington Architects were engaged by Woodcroft College to prepare a Master Plan, and the new Gymnasium made up part of the first stage of works. The building houses the offices for the Physical Education staff, a foyer, meeting area, male and female change areas and extensive storage facilities. The main hall houses an international Olympic standard basketball/volleyball/netball court and has the flexibility to be divisible and run 2 classes simultaneously. The design aims to make the most of natural daylight through innovative material choices. The result is a building that operates without lighting required in daylight hours, significantly reducing ongoing operating costs.
