Seymour College Performing Arts Centre

SEYMOUR COLLEGE PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE, GLEN OSMOND, SA

Phillips/Pilkington Architects designed a new 300 seat performing arts centre with specialist music and drama facilities at Seymour College. A decision was made early in the design process to work with the existing hall building in order to provide the client with the best value for money, maximise the total capacity of the hall, and lower the embodied energy of the building as a whole. Facilities provided include orchestra, band, choir and individual practice rooms, which meet high level acoustic requirements. The stage area incorporates a biobox, as well as new wings and a crossover that link into the basement backstage areas. The acoustics of the hall allow for both drama and music performances. Foyer gallery spaces allow the building to be used for gatherings, display and functions, and music staff are accommodated in offices to the east.
