Port Augusta Cultural Precinct Upgrade

PORT AUGUSTA CULTURAL PRECINCT UPGRADE, SA

Utilising the former Magistrates Court and Institute Hall, a vibrant new cultural precinct for Port Augusta has been created including a theatre, two gallery spaces, and a unique outdoor performace venue in the former Troopers Barracks. The potential of the outdoor spaces has been realised with a bar serving drinks to the exterior and the creation of storage and green room facilities directly accessible from the Troopers Barracks. The 1950's and 1970's alterations to the buildings complex have been stripped away to enable an appreciation of those fine historic buildings, including exposure of timber trusses and stonework in the principal Gallery. After the success of Port Augusta as the 'Regional Centre of Culture 2008', the centre has hosted two further 'Desert Fringes' and numerous performances and exhibitions.
