MONARTO ZOO GIRAFFE FEEDING PLATFORM, SA

This project was the first of many subsequent enhanced visitor experiences at Monarto. It was driven by the desire to locate more people 'on the ground' and with the animals as visitation increased in the early 2000's. A long elevated boardwalk gives access to a covered deck, bringing visitors almost to the giraffe's head level, which makes feeding them an enjoyable task! 

Service facilities are located below. The deck also enables visitors to take in a panoramic view of the adjacent 'African Waterhole'. Recycled and durable materials combine timber, steel and steel sheet to dramatic effect.
