14 Pieces

Commissioned artwork by Hossein and Angela Valamanesh
14 PIECES, PUBLIC ARTWORK, ADELAIDE, SA

14 Pieces was commissioned as part of the North Terrace re-development by Adelaide City Council and SA Government. As part of the brief the artists were asked to use water, as the new artwork replaced an existing water feature. Directly in front of the South Australian Museum it makes reference to notions of excavation, reconstruction and conservation and was inspired by the opalised vertebral column of Ichthyosaur an extinct marine reptile found in the former inland sea, which existed more than 100 million years ago in the Coober Pedy region of South Australia. Phillips/Pilkington Architects provided detailed design and documentation drawings.
